Generation XXX is the current generation of young men and women who love porn. This is so my generation.
When I was growing up, porn was kind of considered this weird taboo subject that no one was really talking about. Like, that’s kinda still true, except that more and more of my friends are coming out as hard core into porn. My lady friends, I mean. All men watch porn, that’s been established. They tried to do a study in the UK to find out the differences within male sexualities between those who watched porn and those who didn’t, but they had to cancel the study because they couldn’t find a control group of men who didn’t watch porn. All men watch porn. Period.
The good news is that most women do too.
And yeah, a lot of the porn out there is still pretty dicey and cliché and stereotypical and heterosexist and just regular sexist and for straight male consumption and aimed to one particular fantasy, BUT we are beginning to enter into a whole new porn era, where female sexuality and the fluidity of sexuality in general is being acknowledged. There was another study done recently where they were trying to determine different peoples turn-ons. They had straight, bisexual, gay, transgender, and queer-identified men and women watch different kinds of porn to determine what turned them on. It turned out that straight men are turned on by watching other straight men pound hot women, gay men are turned on by watching two dudes getting down, but women, ALL women – straight, gay, bisexual, trans, queer-identified, etc – were turned on by ALL OF IT. All the porn. Didn’t matter who was fucking, the ladies watching were into it. You could show a video of two cobblestones having some business time and the chicks in the room would all get lady hard-ons.
So this triple x generation we have going on is one that will hopefully move society towards a more sexually expressive and accepting culture. One that is honest and open about sexual desire and identity and less stuck on labels. A society that (finally) moves away from the religious doctrine that has been constraining and damaging our lives for centuries (whether or not we officially subscribe to it). As soon as we start dealing with sex and desire and identity openly, we’ll be able to deal with some of the sexual issues that occur in a repressed society, like the sexual exploitation of children as well as rape, sexual assault, violence against women, sexism, homophobia, and heterosexism. All of these things are connected.
