The Market Place

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Back in the 1950’s or so, supermarkets as we know them today were few and far between and considered a really big deal for most of us. Just as all of the other markets have exploded with choices over the past few years, so have our choices for Free porn videos and adult entertainment on the Internet.

For a housewife in the 1940’s or 1950’s getting everything together to make a typical everyday meal for her family was quite a daily undertaking. The bread and dessert would need to be purchased at the local bakery, the meat would need to be purchased at the local butcher shop, the vegetables would need to be purchased at the local farmers market, fruit stand, or even picked in the yard and would definitely be limited to whatever was in season at the time, and the flowers for the table would need to come from the local florist shop. It would often take a whole day for a woman to put together a nice dinner for her family, and as there were not a lot of options available for refrigeration, it would most likely have to take place all over again and in the same way on the next day.

Just as the humongous supermarkets have forever changed the way we all shop for groceries, the Internet has forever changed our ability to access and enjoy pornography and adult entertainment materials. We no longer have to skulk around secretly to little out of the way stores to find adult entertainment alternatives for our entertainment. We can now simply turn on our trusty computers in the privacy of our own homes and just enjoy whatever we like without any logistical difficulties or any judgement from anyone to contend with.

The Internet is one huge modern marketplace just waiting for us to pick out whatever we would like and get busy enjoying it.

Racism in Porn: The Experts Debate

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Pornland author Gail Dines is attempting to make the argument that the sexualities of millions are being forcibly hijacked by a billion dollar porn industry.

In Pornland there is a chapter titled “Racy Sex, Sexy Racism!”. Dines writes that it is commonly seen that women of color are almost always subject to a certain genre of porn named Gonzo. According to the author, porn is subject to racializing the behavior of sexual stars in their performances. Descriptions such as “Saxxx tried to clean herself up [but] she was still a low-down dirty ghetto ho! So I rammed her.” Websites and videos commonly feature race-biased titles like, “Me Fuck You Long Time,” or “Oh No! There’s a Negro in My Mom.” Racism in the porn world tends to be caused by the fact that most of the production jobs are predominantly white.

Scholar of pornography, Mireille Miller-Young of the University of California, Santa Barbara, has noticed areas of concern in the adult entertainment industry, although tends to generally disagree with Pornland’s anti-porn philosophy.

Stereotypes in porn are commonly occurring trends that manipulate fantasies, inequality, and exploitation. Women of color however are already directors and web mistresses. Vanessa Blue, Diana DeVoe and Shine Louise Houston are succesful examples of colored women who may be considered to carry themes of feminism and anti-racism. In any case, Miller-Young points out, “If you really want to understand porn from the view of women of color you need to talk to them, not just evaluate their experiences based on the titles of the movies they appear in.”

Ethnic female directors like Mika Tan have spearheaded movements to produce quality movies that showcase women of color without stereotypical roles and images. … Racism is a symptom of the bigger problem of society and porn no more contributes to that than any other form of commercial media. While there is certainly an element of racism in some adult movies, this is by no means the barometer to judge all pornography. This would be like judging all priests based on a few child molesters or all Southern white males based on a few members of the Ku Klux Klan.

Female porn directors who are addressing ethnic movements are producing quality movies that showcase porn stars without stereotypical roles and images. Racism in porn may stem from larger sociological issues, which are perpetuated as frequently in other forms of commercial media. An abundance of elements of racism can be contributed to certain adult movies, but it cannot be eluded overall that pornography is a racist medium.

So, to return to the original question: Is pornography racist? It certainly has racist elements, just like all forms of media and pop culture, but it also depends on who you ask–and we should be asking women inside the industry as well as its critics.

Tila Tequila is a Pornstar…Officially!

Tuesday, August 10th, 2010

Yup, its official Tila Tequila is a pornstar! What took you so long, babycakes! Tila Tequila has yet to make an official announcement, but reports have leaked online stating that the ‘Shot at Love’ star will be staring in her first adult movie from a prominent adult production company.

Interestingly, her sudden transition into the adult world came with a cash amount, she couldn’t refuse. Let’s not beat around the bushes, money was the major motivator in order to get Tila to sign onto the deal. Recently, it’s been reported the financial crisis Tila’s incurred, and i bet this deal made the pint size pornstar a happy taker.

It seems the porn starlet began her celebrations, purchasing a new baby blue Lamborghini, and took to her twitter account to boast about her purchase. The money used to purchase the car was apparently an up front payout from the company that produced her movie.

It’s not surprising to see Tila transition into the adult movie world. Tila has been in numerous male magazines posing nude and made several home sex videos, all available online might i add. Given her past, its only makes sense to see Tila move in the porn direction and this will be her fist role in an actual porn movie. The title of the film, and the name of the production company that produced the porn have yet to be released.
