Any large group of adults gathering to play or party in a certain theme for a weekend invites as much over indulgence in the theme for the two days as it does the possibility for sex. This might be true at kink conventions for sure, where the reason for the gathering is sex and all its permutations but at Sci-fi gatherings or other social outings where adults are dressed, acting or speaking with stilted specific speech or mannerisms the role-play can, and usually does, take on a certain sexual overtone.
A Renaissance Faire is one such animal!
The medieval theme welcomes busty lasses and young virile guys, both audience and workers and hastily built tent villages built in the mud and summer sun of some infrequently used field. Very much like a circus come to town, a Ren faire usually stays for a time so social gatherings between the works and locals are frequent and usually bawdy.
At night when the make-shift shops are closed, the workers party, and with no place to go and lots of room, the debauchery can reach epic proportions. Already wearing sexy outfits; corsets and tight bodices, the men sporting codpieces and tight leather jerkins, the mood is naughty to begin with and as drink is passed-and there is always plenty of drink to be passed-all manner of sexy trouble is soon brewing between whomever wishes to be brewed. Playing in the guise of minstrels, wizards and drinking wenches all guilt can be assuaged and any manner of coupling can happen for a night or the season.
There are usually no sexual restrictions in this group. It is a more hedonistic approach to life when you live in a tent for a summer and take your pleasures and bath when you can. Sexual preferences can usually be dashed, at least for a few months, and gay men and women become straight, or bi and heterosexual sex is pretty much a thing of the past for most, both the faire workers or those from town lucky enough to be invited into the inner social circle. These days the net makes socializing better, as one faire can hook-up with another close by for a massive gathering of tribes or invites can go out to Facebook friends who want to stop up for a weekend of sex and fun.
