It’s hard now to imagine or remember what life was like before we had the internet and had so much information at our fingertips all the time. Some of us can remember what life was like before, but we’ve grown so accustomed to the convenience and ease of doing everything on our computers that it seems like the time before the computer was an extremely long time ago, when really it was less than 20 years. It’s amazing how many things have changed now though, and how difficult it would be to live without the internet and all of our technology now that we’re used to it. Twenty years ago when the very rich and important few had a ‘mobile phone’, it was a huge clunky thing that required a case the size of a briefcase. Nobody then could imagine that twenty years later, we’d have iPhones that would house everything in our entire lives, from our calendar to our contacts to all of our music. We can even date now on our smart phones, as most of the larger dating websites have phone applications. It might actually be possible at this point to fall in love using nothing more than our smart phone, because we can do everything from getting on the dating site to making a reservation for a first date to texting and talking on the phone. One device does it all. There probably weren’t too many people who saw this coming. One o the biggest changes that the internet has made in people’s lives is the easy accessibility of sexual information.
In the past, people would have to brave potentially dangerous situations in order to learn more or explore the own sexuality. BDSM and fetish was a whole underground world that was frightening and sometimes dangerous because nefarious people knew they could take advantage of desperate people who were looking for ways to explore their fantasies. These days people can find out anything they want right from the safety of their own home. They can interact with people before venturing out to a dungeon or party, so they feel a little more secure. We have a world where information is vast and easy to access for everyone, and that is a great thing for everyone in the world.
