Porn Moratorium Lifted As HIV Outbreak Is ‘Under Control’

The month long moratorium on pornography production in America has been lifted as the Free Speech Coalition (FSC), the industry’s trade organization, said filming could resume however, performers must now be tested for sexually transmitted diseases every 14 days rather then the past standard of 28 days.

The moratorium was first put in place when an actress by the name of Cameron Bay went public about her positive HIV test results. It was lifted shortly after, but reinstated a few days later as several other performers were also found with positive results, including Bay’s boyfriend, Rod Daily. The total HIV patent number comes to three confirmed cases while a fourth has been claimed by the Aids Healthcare Foundation (AHF) but denied by the FSC. The FSC also claims all transmissions happened off set.

The AHF has been a major advocate of the Measure B law recently passed in LA County, and of the statewide law which recently did not pass in the courthouses. These laws were drafted with the intended purpose of forcing actors to wear protection at all times on set, but the FSC has been fighting them claiming it is a violation of free speech rights. Advocates on both sides have been at a bitter war against each other, with the AHF saying these actors need to be protected like it was any other job, and the FSC saying businesses will just go elsewhere, leaving the state and county profitless from the taxes the industry generates. The risk will still be within the industry, but just in another state.
