Porn Industry Suspends Production After HIV Positive Results
The American Adult Film Industry put a hold on all production after a fresh rising star, Cameron Bay, tested positive for HIV. A test conducted on august 19, 2013 came back inconclusive, but the following day the same tests showed a positive result. Her previous test was conducted on July 27 and had filmed content between the two dates.
Bay, 28, has been slowly rising into the adult industry since 2010. She has an extensive criminal background with charges ranging from Forgery to Aggravated Assault and has spent just over a year in jail. Of course, Cameron Bay is not here real name, and it is being held from publication due to the sensitive nature of the medical diagnosis. She has come forward though, speaking with Industry insiders AVN she said:
“When I got the call, I was obviously extremely distraught and in disbelief because there’s no way that it’s possible in my eyes. I don’t sleep around, I don’t do anything crazy, and I keep track of the people that I’ve worked with. If it is [positive] I will of course do everything I can to spread awareness and take care of myself and do the things that are necessary or in my power to do. But it is unconfirmed. They’re doing more tests, and when I spoke with the doctor, I asked him, ‘Is it absolutely, positively HIV?’ and he said, ‘No, there’s a possibility it’s not, because there’s no such thing as an actual HIV test, they just search for the antibodies that they associate with HIV.’”
Bay is currently represented by Adult Talent Managers LA (ATMLA). ATMLA owner Mark Schechter also spoke with AVN:
“I’ve been with Cameron all afternoon, consoling and working with her in regards to the proper steps that we are taking, which includes notifying all the agencies in LATATA for the purpose of being able to notify all of her points of contact that she’s been with, which has really only been a small handful. She hasn’t worked that much. Due to the spreading of her name in terms of being potentially the performer that’s infected, she does want to have her privacy, but at the same time she’s coming forward so that she can notify all the people that have to be notified and do what she has to do even if it comes back as a false positive, which we don’t know at this point in time.”
In 2011 the Adult Industry saw a False Positive result that halted production then just as it is doing now. 2012 saw the industry halted again with a syphilis outbreak with actor Mr. Marcus at the root of the outbreak. All of these scares are being used as justification for the Measure B laws that came in place last year, which force all performers to wear a condom while preforming in California. This would be the third time an HIV scare has happened in the US Industry in the last 10 years.
One actor who performed with Bay during the risk of infection, Xander Corvus, went on to perform condomless sex with Sydney Leathers while filming her debut porno video “Weiner & Me”. Leathers has since come forward saying she has been tested with negative results.
Diane Duke, executive director of the industry trade group the Free Speech Coalition, has stated the moratorium will be lifted once the risk of transmission has been eliminated.
