In the 4th and final part of Orgasm News’ Dave Kingsley interview with James Bartholet, he talks about his career in Public Relations, life and what matters the most to him. Part 1, Part 2 and Part 3 of the interview are also still available!
James talks about being in Public Relations
I had been doing some stuff in mainstream, and then when I came over to adult, I was always the guy that has… I’m an idea man. I had all these creative, little ways to promote my clients. I think Galaxy, we’ve been around for six years now. We started with Alexis Amore, Daisy Marie, and August. Some of these gals, Ginger Lynn, people like that. We had these incredible, incredible clients. I was like, “OK. Well, this is good. But we can’t just do a press release. We’ve got to think outside of the box!
We take our clients out to the movie premiers, and we take them to store signings, and we help them with the marketing, the brand, their name, their make, and star. And I think we’ve blown up so many of our stars, that are clients, that why they just stay with us. And they’re so loyal. They’re like family.
And I think the “X” industry. We’re all like one giant, dysfunctional… Munster, Addams Family kind of family. Anyway. Yes. There’s just so many wonderful, little things we did. I remember one time I did… Veronica Rayne, and Jack Vegas, and Dick Chibbles, all these other clients that we had.
The Kardashians? Not that big of a deal!
We went to a mainstream movie premier, and Kardashian, it was right before the Kardashian show came out, right? The mom was there with Kim, and was on the red carpet, and was just behind me and Veronica. There was a guy from the Tonight Show that was doing interviews. He just fell in love with Veronica because she was very beautifully, elegantly, sexily dressed. She just was wonderful. This guy was just putty in her hand. Kardashians are like, “Hurry up. Hurry up. Nobody wants to talk to a porn star.” The guy turned and said, “Nobody wants to talk to you. Get moving.”
They had to go around us on this mainstream red carpet and go up. At that time, what was Kim known for? That sex tape. Who wants to talk to this broad that made a sex tape with a guy? Who is she? She’s like nobody. But they turned that around, and they plunked her into this big, huge thing. But do people really respect her? I think the public might respect adult film actresses more than they respect the Kardashians!
Reality Shows…
People love watching all of that stuff, and Honey Boo Boo, and all of these other ridiculous reality shows because people love to watch a train wreck. People love to watch car wrecks. When you go down the freeway, and you see two cars crashing on the side of the road, you slow down and you look at that. Most people do that. Reality shows are like that. They’re like car crashes. You’ve got to slow down, you have to watch it. You’re like, “I can’t believe that stuff.” I think respect-wise, people would respect the adult performers more because we’re out, we’re open. This is what we do.
“You get very, very busy with what we do every day. It’s important to break away. Get out from behind that desk. Get out from behind that computer, and get out there see the real world.”
-James Bartholet
Something people don’t know about James Bartholet…
You’ve got a lot of good questions there! I love to swim. I love to cook. Let’s see…I like being outdoors. Hiking or taking walks, outdoor kind of activities. I think it’s always good to get out there and smell the roses. Take a moment to stop and smell the roses.
You get very, very busy with what we do every day. It’s important to break away. Get out from behind that desk. Get out from behind that computer, and get out there see the real world. You can easily just get caught up in your social networking lives every day and forget about the real world that’s out there to experience.
Playing a video game or playing a… It is important to keep up on your followers on your Twitter and your Facebook and all of that stuff. But don’t let it take over your life and your day. Get out and see the world. Get out and experience the real world instead of the virtual world. Does that make any sense?
The Importance of getting out and living life!
I think that’s absolutely important to do. Also, as an actor, I think it’s like… I love to walk around and just observe and look at people. One of the last movies that I did, I played a security guard. I was at a store, and I was looking at the little …guys that were the security guards in there.
Then just picking little bits and pieces off of them. Just observing these guys, how they stood, how they walked around. That helped me when I’m acting, I create this three-dimensional real character. I have something to pull back from to create my character. It’s very, very good to go out and observe the world.
Plus, just get out and get some exercise. I think one of the reasons why people are overweight and unhealthy is because they don’t get outside and get some fresh air and exercise. I think that’s important to do. You’ve got to keep active all the time. You can enjoy all the things you do in life a lot more because you’re healthy. When it makes you happy, you produce positive endorphins. Wow. We’re really going way off. [laughs]
The most important things in life…
I don’t delve too much into my personal life. Suffice it to say, it is a wonderful thing. I’ve been a father for many years. Family is always very, very important. I think you will find as you speak with more adult film stars, you will see that family is very important. For a lot of people who work in the adult industry [they] are taking care of family.
It’s another reason why we can’t let this measure pass because we have families to support. Being a father is a wonderful thing. In fact, I’d like to have more kids, to tell you the truth. In a way, my clients are like my children. [laughs] It’s a wonderful thing to be a father. I used to have a really, really wild life. A, really, wild life! This is even before I got into the adult industry.
“The greatest legacy you can leave behind won’t be just your movies, or a statue made of you in a park, or all your awards and your accolades. Your greatest legacy that you leave behind is your children.”
-James Bartholet
Since becoming a parent, I think I’ve mellowed out a lot more. I think that’s just being older, and being mature, and realizing your responsibilities, and what you need to do, provide for them. There’s an old saying that probably the greatest legacy you can leave behind won’t be just your movies, or a statue made of you in a park, or all your awards and your accolades. Your greatest legacy that you leave behind is your children. And that’s a very, very true statement.
Accolades and awards aren’t everything…
Yes. We do love all our awards and everything we get. Don’t get me wrong. I love that. But I think the most important thing that you can leave behind is your children. That they have a good life, and they’re leading a good life. Your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren, and your great-great-grandchildren. You’re leaving behind something for them.
My family may not totally approve of everything that I do. But they do love me, and they do support me. They look up to me. They’re proud of my accomplishments and stuff that I do. Not just as performer, but just as a person.
I like to lead a good life, and I have a lot of Buddhist beliefs. A lot of things about karma and stuff like that. It’s super important. I’d like to leave a good legacy behind. I like people to know… I’d like to know that I’ve entertained people and enriched their lives. Entertained them for a little bit, and made them happy…
