Orgasm News: It’s very interesting that you mentioned Evil Angel. [We] just had an interview with John [Stagliano.] How was your experience with Evil Angel? Did they initially come to you?

Kelly: Yeah. I think, well, Joyce is the, is the director who did Evil BBW Gold, which is the title that’s out…Evil Angel is notorious because of John and his affinity for large butted women. So, you know, obviously a lot of the shooting involves showing off butts.. they approached me, I guess one of their male performers, had suggested, you know, had helped them with castings, and my name came up as well as a few other girls. Then, they were still trying to fill a couple more scenes and so the girls recommended other girls that they knew were level and good performers. So, I hope that he does, you know, I hope that it does well enough for them to consider doing another one….I’d love to work with John.

Orgasm News: Are you reading any books at the moment?

Kelly: I am not [however] I’m reading a lot of blogs…I wish I had the time to read. I actually just got an iPad, and I do travel a lot more than I used to. I’m making a lot more appearances because of Flesh Light and because I have a new DVD that just came out that I’m promoting. And so, now that I’m actually on the plane a lot more, I’ll be downloading a lot of books, but I have, I have a tendency to pick up a lot of abstract, as opposed to full fiction novels…I’m a business book junkie.

….

Kelly: [The] funny thing is a lot of people get into this industry, and it’s an ego based industry, you know and, a lot of girls get upset when their not hired for as many scenes as they used to or they’re turned down for certain things because they don’t fit the style or what the companies putting out, and they take it very personally. And, because I come from a marketing background, I don’t ever see it as a personal attack.

There was one company that kept telling me no month after month after month that they wanted to shoot me, and after like the 4th or 5th month of me following up, I said “look, you know, no offense, but I have a very busy schedule, why don’t you let me know when you’re ready to shot me.” I come from a background that look, if that opportunity isn’t there, then it’s not there.

Orgasm News: But, at the same time you’re being professional.

Kelly: There’s a lot of different options. You could try to do webcam, you could try to be a dancer, you could try to go back to school and be a sex educator…or write a book. I mean, there’s so many [things to get] into: marketing, production, directing, producing. There’s so many different options that if one avenue slows down or closes, that doesn’t mean it’s the end and I think that’s where a lot of are girls upset and bitter, or a lot of girls get into the habit of using alcohol or drugs to try to stay in one segment of an industry longer than they maybe, probably should.

Orgasm News: That’s why you are talking at events?

Kelly: I don’t just talk at adult conferences. I’ve actually spoken at mainstream conferences too. I’m the novelty act. I’m the one that gets invited because I’m the porn girl, but at the same time, at the end of the conference, they’re like, “She actually has a brain. It’s not just about her boobs and her pussy.”

Orgasm News: You’re having a lot of success as a speaker then.

Kelly: I’m 40. I can’t be a performer forever. At a certain point I’m going to want to have less performance sex and more real sex. The sabbatical is going to come to a close and at that time I’m going to want to move on to other things. Even this year I’ve already moved into directing and producing. I already moved into a novelty market. I have a marketing company that’s doing Okay. It’s not making a bazillion dollars, but it pays the bills. I’m generally pretty happy.

Orgasm News: You’ve been in porn for a bit now. What do you believe is the future of porn? What’s your personal outlook on it?

Kelly: I think that my background in mainstream and watching Indie film making and what’s happened with Indie film making in Hollywood, we’re seeing a lot of that in adult. Where you have your giant studios that make these giant blockbuster films, and then you have these smaller [gonzo] companies that were making a lot of product for a market that wasn’t interested in story-line porn. Like the frat boy, “I just want to see people have sex,” kind of porn. The unfortunate part is because of things like all the free porn and piracy and all that, I think that over time what people are going to find is, right now in the past couple of years the consumer base, especially teenage boys, like frat boys…18 and over, horny men, they’re more interested in quantity over quality.

There was a period in the ’90s, and music was the same way too. In the ’90s where all these garage bands were doing really well [as well as] lndie film making, there was the independent film channel…Hollywood Video actually had a division called First Look. That was specifically for companies who couldn’t get a distribution deal anywhere else. It was always kind of super low budget Indie cult type films. That would get VHS distribution and eventually DVD distribution through Hollywood Video’s First Look program. Obviously that doesn’t even exist anymore. I think what happened is people got tired of [watching] a bunch of crap, so people started seeking quality independent films.

Then you get a lot of the big studios that start having smaller divisions that are there specifically to support independent films. Then you’ve got producers like George Clooney who agree to do films like Oceans Eleven, and that was a Blockbuster. Then they said “well can you do Oceans 12 and 13? And his response was “Well, I’ll do Oceans 12 and 13, but you have to fund my Indie film “Good Night and Good Luck”, which was a black and white film…That’s how that film got made.

I think you will start to see, hopefully, if the industry is going to succeed, as far as quality is concerned, I think you’re going to start seeing fewer independent companies, and you’re going to start seeing larger companies that have divisions that are dedicated and actually spend the money to make quality independent products.
