Sex Addict refers to someone who is quite literally addicted to sex, and has a compulsive urge to have sex often. Being labeled a sex addict is a very tricky, ambiguous process, much like being labeled an alcoholic. Perhaps you’re just a social drinker? Maybe you like drinking more than the average person. You’ve got a stressful job and you like to cool off with a Bubba each night after work. What’s the big deal?
Such is the similar response of sex addicts. Many individuals who could be labeled a sex addict would argue that they just have a high sex drive. After all, isn’t the above definition a little vague? In fact, studies show that 95% of men who were given the above definition went on to believe that they were actually a sex addict. Of course, 75% of those men were basing it solely on the later half of the definition. After all, you can’t be a smoker if you only smoke a cigarette once or twice a month, right?
In order to clarify, being a sex addict entails more than just really enjoying sex and always feeling horny. It’s the type of person who has joined the mile high club, on every single flight they’ve ever been on. The type of guy who goes to porno movie theaters, jerks off, and then picks up the popcorn girl at the end of the movie and fucks her in the washroom. The type of girl who bangs eight guys, at the same party, without putting her clothes back on in between. These are sex addicts. If you masturbate daily, or have sex with four or five different people each week, you’re not a sex addict; you’re just lucky.
The history and cultural attitudes towards sex addiction varies as well. In European countries like Germany and Romania, there is no such thing as a Sex addict. Much like the French refusing to recognize someone who smokes as ‘addicted,’ these European countries are so sexual by nature, and into kinky fetishes, that the mere thought of someone being addicted to sex is like saying they are addicted to breathing.
Of course, in North American countries, sex addiction is taken very seriously. Therapy sessions and support groups are common treatments for sex addiction, treating anyone from a chronic masturbator, to a woman who only fucks distant cousins because she gets incredibly turned on by taboos. In fact, many Hollywood stars have sought help for their sexual addictions. Several years ago Richard Gere went through intensive therapy sessions after his gerbilling incident. Of course, he only sought help after the gerbil died and he desperately resorted to live squirrels from the local park, caught by the National Enquirer as he ran across the park in board daylight with his pants off, frantically shoving acorns up his anus. Other celebrities who were reportedly sex addicts were Jack Black, Stephen Hawking, Oprah (a known sitophiliac-food fetisher), and Bob Barker.
1. When Oprah finally admitted she was a sex addict, she was terrified that she would have to give up eating too.
2. If you find yourself masturbating to fantasies of every female you know in your daily life, you’re not a sex addict. You’re a dude.
