A report conducted by Fondation Scelles, and published in Le Figaro , found that there are around 40-42 million prostitutes working worldwide and that 75% of them are between 13 and 25 years of age. That number reflects the world’s insatiable desire for sex and truly how big the industry really is. Another stat that the report noted was that 80% of prostitutes are female.

When the overall numbers are broken down, there are 1 million prostitutes in the United States alone. Although prostitution is only legal in Neveda, it’s a booming industry in the States and that means that there’s 1 prostitute for every 300 Americans.

Prostitution is typically unregulated and many of the workers are coerced into hooking. In the map below, the yellow stars represent regions where sex tourism flourish – this includes Mexico, as well as several areas in South America and Asia.
