Orgasm News Interviews Nikki Delano
Orgasm News’ Dave Kingsley interviews Nikki Delano, a porn star who is on the rise. With an 2012 AVN award for best Latina Performer of the Year to her name she is certainly a porn star to watch for in 2013.
DK: First off, what brought you into the porn industry? What attracted you? What did you do before?
Nikki Delano: Before this I actually graduated college. I went to John J. College of Criminal Justice. I graduated with a bachelor’s in forensic psychology with a minor in addiction studies and another in criminology. I was an office manager for a non-profit organization. I’m not going to name it. I don’t want to blast them on the air. I was an office manager. I always was interested in the field of the adult world.
I grew up Catholic. I was in Catholic school. I had a very strict family. That held me back. I know I went to school and stuff, but the other side always attracted me. Bother, the company, one of the biggest companies in the world, scouted me. I also modeled on the side. They offered me a couple scenes and I tried one out just to see for the hell of it. It sucked me in. I fell in love.
DK: Something really interesting that you said, I looked at your bio before, about your degree in forensic psychology, that sounds pretty complex. Are you considering something in, for example, criminology or something in the future?
Nikki: I’ll never shoot anything down. Other than that, I like what I’m doing. I’m going to branch out into other things. I don’t have anything in mind when it comes to that. Orientations or forensic psychology. I want to open my own business, a gym line or nutrition. I’m really into nutrition.
DK: That’s another thing too. You’re a health nut and you are really into fitness. What got you into that?
Nikki: I’ve been working out for years but I used to be a gymnast. As a child, I grew up in sports. My family was very athletic. My parents are very athletic. As a child I was always active. It carried on through my adulthood. Yes.
DK: You just had to dye your hair. Tell me a little bit about how you changed from blonde to dark hair. How was that transformation and how do you like it now?
Nikki: I actually love it. It’s a lot better. My agent wanted me to look more Latina. I’m known as Latin but she wanted me to look the part. I got nominated in one Latina performer of the year, so everyone knows that I’m Latin. She wanted me to change my image completely, to transform to something else. I have people in the building that don’t even recognize me anymore because I dyed my hair dark. It’s cool. I like it.
DK: Congratulations! You have been nominated for X-biz awards but you also have 2013 performer with website of the year. What does this kind of honor represent for you?
Nikki: The one Latina performer of the year is awesome because there were so many people that went out there and for me to be acknowledged…Yes, X-business nominated me for adult performer of the year’s website.
It’s a great honor because I work really hard on my website. I really work hard. Aside from regular shoots for the company, I put in time and effort into shooting content for my site, exclusive content just for members. It’s an honor. I have a great team behind me. You know Mercedes and her husband Rick. They are my web masters and they put a lot of effort into uploading my content and making sure my website is doing well. Yes.
DK: How important has Nina Mercedes been to your career and development of your career?
Nikki: She’s made a huge, huge impact on me because she’s like a mentor. She’s a mentor to me. We’ve gotten into discussions and arguments of right and wrong. She just wants me to do everything so that I can succeed. she’s been a big help to me. She has reprimanded me when I’m not doing something right. She’s really looked out for me so I really appreciate her a lot. I never had anyone look out for me like a child, like her daughter.
DK: Going back to talking about business, you are obviously an entrepreneur as well. There was something I heard about a t-shirt business or your clothing line. Tell us a little bit about that.
Nikki: I don’t own my own clothing but I’m a spokes model, doing the shirts for shopsis.com. They just launched a new t-shirt for me. This is my second one. It launched on black Friday. It’s called dope girl. I love the company. They have so many amazing different styles. Their t-shirt concepts are awesome. I’m one of their left girls inside of their company.
DK: Being in the adult film industry for a bit now, who are some of your favorite co-stars that you’ve had a chance to work with?
Nikki: Missy Martinez. Jenna Carerra. I don’t even know! I haven’t worked with…Kathy Heaven. There are so many. I don’t want to name everyone. Kathy Heaven. One of my good friends is Julie Cash. I haven’t worked with her, but she’s one of my best friends and she works in the industry as well.
DK: What the wildest sexual experience you’ve ever been involved in?
Nikki: Off set. When I was a teenager I got involved in a, I don’t want to say it out loud…Just a couple girls and two guys when I was about nineteen. It was during a party. I got a little wild.
DK: Who are a couple of celebrities you would love to have sex with?
Nikki: Let’s see. Channing Tatum. He’s seriously one of the most gorgeous men in the world. He’s hot. After I saw Magic Mike I fell in love. Yeah, him [and] I love Robert Patterson.
DK: What would your ultimate fantasy be?
Nikki: A day in the life with Channing Tatum.
DK: How would you describe the perfect date?
Nikki: The perfect date would be with someone I hit it off right away with. Someone that makes me ‘Wow’ that I meet and connect with right off the bat that has so much in common with you. I’m not saying you have to be doing what I’m doing, but as long as I meet somebody that you hit it off right off the bat with and you can talk about anything, that to me is the perfect date.
DK: Do you have any tips for men in how to satisfy a woman?
Nikki: Be Soft and sensual.
DK: Looking at your career right now, you said you were raised in a Catholic home, have your family and friends been supportive?
Nikki: In the beginning, they found out the first month that I entered. I lost a bunch of friends, but those are not my real friends. The ones that own you for what you choose to do in your life. I’m a grown woman. I’m not stupid. I don’t think of it as a way just to make money. It’s a long term thing and it’s branched on to other things.
DK: How did you come up with your porn star name?
Nikki: My real name is Nicole so Nikki is my nickname. My real nickname. Delano is from a hotel in Miami. I love Miami. I don’t know. It reminds me of my first name and then Miami. Nothing special.
DK: Miami is special for you?
Nikki: Yes. I love Miami. I want to end up in Miami. I feel at home. Even though I’m from New York I feel like I’m at home when I’m in Miami.
DK: What are some of the projects you are currently working on?
Nikki: I’m also going to be flying the US all over the US. That’s a big thing for me. I’m expanding my website and doing other things that normally I wouldn’t do on there. I’m not going to say because you have to sign up in order to see all of the brand new content. Yeah. Then my new look and trying to change my whole image and try to do other things besides what the normal blonde would do.
DK: It’s obvious you are really into marketing an branding yourself. Those are important components in being successful in the porn industry. For you, what are some of the things that you are putting out there in order to make yourself successful?
Nikki: Just being different. Whatever you do you have to be different. You have to be punctual. You have to have a strong backbone. For me just working hard, continuing to market myself. That sets me apart from other girls who are going part to part and they don’t have a good head on their shoulders. Working hard. Work hard.
DK: Talking about marketing and branding yourself, how important has Twitter and social media been in your career?
Nikki: I think it’s a huge, huge part of building your fan base. I’m on Instagram, Tumblr, I have a Facebook, and Twitter. Marketing yourself on social networks is huge. Huge. You are able to tweet your work and your scene, everything you’re coming up with like your events. It’s huge. I don’t think most girls would be able to grow as fast as they are growing at this point.
DK: What are your overall thoughts on the internet? Do you think it’s a positive or more of a negative to the porn industry?
Nikki: It’s 50/50, because there are so many sites on there that are giving out content for free which I am really against. They make us lose money. It’s a 50/50 for my end. With the other free sites that are giving out free scenes. You can look it up! You can find all of it for free. They are so good they can find our scenes for free. The ones that put money in our pocket are the older generation, forty and up. They are the ones that are paying for our work.
DK: Thanks Nikki. It was nice talking with you.
Nikki: Thank you. Well, nice talking to you!
