Porn Star CoCo Brown is as business-savvy as they come! After moving to Germany over a decade ago, CoCo built her brand shrewdly becoming one of the most successful porn stars in not only Europe but in the Industry as a whole. Dave Kingsley spoke to CoCo about blasting off into space in  2014, her move to Germany, and her music career.

 

Dave Kingsley: First off, congratulations on being part of space history: being the first porn star in space as well as the second African American woman in space! It’s quite the accomplishment! Can you tell us about how you got involved in going into space?

CoCo Brown: How I got into the space program is an interesting story. A man named Haltiner Henning held a private luncheon in February here in Berlin. It was an exclusive lunch for about 12 invited guests. I was invited at the last minute. I knew the lunch had something to so with space but I had no clue about the details.

 

I’ve always loved watching shows like “The Universe” or anything on the Discovery Channel that related to Space so I was interested. I was like over an hour late, but to my surprise they were talking about flying into Space. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! So it was completely by accident, but I took advantage of the opportunity.

 

DK: Tell us a little about how you got into the adult entertainment industry?

CoCo: Now that’s a funny story too.. I was a dancer for about seven months. I used to dance at a club in Las Vegas called “De Ja Vu”. A porn producer from Elegant Angel named Nicky Starks came into the Vu in 1999 & bought 1 dance from me. He said “I only bought the dance because I wanted to see you naked. Here’s my card. I want to put you in one of movies.” He even sent me a few movies that he already did. I took some time to think about it and three months later I accepted his offer.

 

It was perfect timing for something new because in Vegas, dancers don’t make a lot of money in the summer. That next weekend I went to L.A. and did my first film called Bomb Ass Pussy. Nicky was shocked that I seemed to be so comfortable and natural on film. I thought it was pretty easy and I knew I could do well in the industry. After that, I stayed in demand and never stopped working.

 

DK: You moved to Germany back in 1999. Why did you decide to move there?  What is the adult entertainment industry there like?

CoCo: I moved to Germany because my ex-husband also came into the Vu and we fell in love. He was German and said “Come to Germany. I can’t live without you.”

 

I came to Germany in 1999 & never left. We married in 2001. So it was because of a man, not because the Porn Biz that I moved here. However, in 2001, I did 3 movies – two for Magma and one for DBM. I was immediately signed with an exclusive contract with DBM after my first film with them.

 

DK: You shot under the name ‘Honey Love’ originally. Why did you change your name to CoCo Brown?

CoCo: I chose my new name on my honeymoon! Funny right? I said “ok I’ll need a new name that German audiences can relate to.” I came home and did my second DBM film under the name CoCo  Brown.

 

DK: How did you come up with CoCo Brown?

CoCo: My now ex-husband is Internet marketing genius! So we brainstormed for about 1 week on our honeymoon, and came up with CoCo Brown [laughs] No really!!!

 

DK: You won the Venus Award for Best New Starlet in 2002. Did winning this award help your career? If so, how?

CoCo: I’m not sure if winning the Venus helped my career, but being nominated for the Venus after only 4 months in the industry here certainly did! I was very, very lucky to be on TV and in magazines quite a bit here in Europe. They couldn’t get enough… It was very humbling and I am forever grateful that I was so well received.

 

I got out of the adult business in late 2002, but I was fortunate that my fame as a television personality and a model kept me in the press and I continued to get work. A rap producer saw me in 2003 on TV, called my management, and put me in his music video.

 

Afterwards he said “I like the sound of your voice. Have you ever rapped before?” I said no, but I’m never one to back down from a challenge or trying something new. I came into his studio, and who knew…I had talent as a rapper!! We immediately started making music together. I have performed on a lot of compilations and worked in the music biz till 2008 under my name CoCo Brown.

 

DK: You’re also a musician. Can you tell us about some of the projects you’ve worked on? Are you planning on recording an album?

 

CoCo: Actually yes! I’m very excited to start making music again. Unfortunately someone else is making music under my name now. This has been very upsetting to not only me, but my wonderful music producers as well.

 

We decided, to get back into the music scene to not only stop her, but because it is a true passion of mine.  I should in the studio again early next year.

 

DK: You’ve worked with many musicians including Wu Tang Clan. How was that experience like?

CoCo: It was very interesting and lots of fun. Wu tang was the last music producer I worked with. We did a whole CD together. What a great experience.

 

DK: What has been the importance of marketing, positioning, and branding yourself in the porn industry?

CoCo: I had an interesting path into the industry. I found fame as a porn star here in Europe very quickly, and that does not happen often. Lots of girls work years and years for recognition and I happened upon it immediately  Of course I was very grateful, but being thrust in the public eye can cause some difficulties. I always say the business actually branded me cause I haven’t done an adult film since 2003.

 

DK: Can you tell us about some of the projects (mainstream, porn and music) you’re working on at the moment?

CoCo: Since my contract ended with DBM, I have only been making mainstream appearances and things have been going very well. I am currently writing a book about all my crazy experiences with a famous German ghost writer and I’m now currently designing a new line of shoes. And of course, I’m training to go into space!

 

DK: Which porn stars do you admire? Why?

I admire myself actually! [laughs]

 

DK: Have there been any porn stars that you particularly enjoyed working with? Why?

CoCo: I know this is a broad answer but I would say there’s no particular person I’ve enjoyed working with, there is a certain type of person I love to work with. I’ve always concentrated on giving 100 percent when I did my movies.

 

I was focused on being the best performer I could be and I enjoyed when the other performer was professional and gave 100 percent on their end as well. Unfortunately, that doesn’t always happen in the industry, so I loved working with people who knew how to do their job.

 

DK: Is there any advice you can share with other starlets starting out in the industry?

CoCo: Hmmm… advice for new starlets? Do your job well and be smart about your business and you’ll have a long and successful career. 

 

DK: You’re known as one of the most adventurous porn stars out there today. What has been the craziest thing involving sex that you’ve been involved in?

CoCo: My whole sex life is crazy! Trust me!! It’s hard to pinpoint just one crazy thing…because I’ve done too many [laughs]

 

I did, however, work for six months in a dominatrix studio here in Germany many, many years ago. When I first started working there a guy came in a requested the new girl…which was me. He asked me to stick my hand in his ass, but so deep that I could feel his heart beating on hand.

 

I found that an extremely crazy situation to be in! Shit like that doesn’t happen to most people everyday! [laughs]

 

DK: What is a celebrity that you would love to have sex with? Why?

CoCo: I’m real not interested in sleeping with celebrities. I like intelligent, smart businessmen. That’s what turns me on.

 

DK: What would your ultimate sexual fantasy be?

I’ve done everything, everywhere in the bedroom. I’m very proud that I have lived all my fantasies! I think that kind of sexual freedom makes it pretty difficult for the guys I date now, cause I’ve already done almost everything that there is to do when it comes to sex.

 

DK: What is your one guilty pleasure?

CoCo: [laughs] A comedian named Ingmar Stadelman! He’s the only guy that I’ll let do me at the drop of hat: anytime, anywhere, anyhow he wants. He is my guilty pleasure.

 

DK: Do you have a fetish? If so, can you share it with us?

CoCo: Oh my God! I do have a fetish! But it’s not what you’re thinking. It’s cell phones!! I have 8 now. 4 Vertu 2, Samsung’s, a tab, and I just bought the new Nokia Windows phone. I always have about 3 or 4 phones in my purse at one time.

 

DK: What is your favourite sexual position? Why?

CoCo: My favorite sex position is from behind because I like using my vibrator while being fucked!!

 

DK: May you describe what’s your idea of a perfect date?

CoCo: I was briefly dating this guy who flew me to Paris for second date because I had never been there. We walked the stairs of the Eiffel tower then had dinner in this great Parisian restaurant. Umm…perfect date, right?  

 

DK: Have your family and friends been supportive of your career in porn?

CoCo: I am very, very lucky. My friends and family have always supported me in my career. I run the CoCo  Brown name and fame like the Kardashian family!

 

Lots of people from the adult industry don’t get the kind of family support I do. I’m always thankful. I am a brand. I am a label. And I believe the best people to help me with career is my family, because they are the only ones I trust.

 

DK: What are your thoughts on the Internet? Do you think it’s a positive force in the porn industry?

CoCo: Well, I know the importance of the Internet, probably more that I ever expected to. I was married to a Internet C.E.O. who taught me if you know how to work the internet, use it to your advantage, then your name in porn will survive.

 

Unfortunately, I do believe the Internet has hurt the industry at least in video & DVD sales. But again, it’s all about using the Internet in the correct way and figuring out how to avoid letting it harm or hinder your career.

 

DK: What is something people don’t know about you?

CoCo: I am kind of clumsy! I walk into doors, slip down stairs! [laughs] dumb stuff…
