James Bartholet Talks About Measure B

Don’t forget to go out and vote for measure B today. It is certainly a controversial measure, which would make it mandatory for porn stars to wear protection while performing on screen. James Bartholet, a respected actor in both mainstream and adult films, told Orgasm News his thoughts on Measure B and what it will do to the Los Angeles based Adult Entertainment Industry if it is passed.

Measure B or AIDS care?

“We’ve been doing interviews and I had my dear friend Amber Lynn was on the radio show [Inside the Industry] with me and Sinn Sage and Tia Cyrus and we were talking about it. And we had calls from all over the United States from fans and every single fan who called…said they were going to donate money…to help us with the campaign because this Michael Weinstein guy has taken the money from AIDS projects the AIDS health care project: One million dollars that should be spend on AIDS care. He took one million dollars out from this campaign in order to shut down the porn industry and we’ve got to raise the money so we can get up there and inform the public.”

If you’re against Measure B vote No Bartholet explains…

“I have just finished reading emails from fans saying that they would be voting YES on this. And it’s NO. You have to vote No on this [Measure B.] They said that they thought that voting Yes would help [the industry.] There’s a confusion…that’s what politicians and lobbyist always do. They confuse the public by using rhetoric …We have to let everyone know that the No vote is what’s going to stop this thing from happening because what’s going to happen is this: if the vote passes besides a condom law this will open the door for…all these regulations to thrown on to us: a face mask, rubber gloves, dental dams, biohazard suits! I was on a shoot one time and a guy came in and said [we] need[ed] to scoop up the semen and put it in a biohazard bag and to dispose of it. What am I shooting out of my penis? radioactive material? This is ridiculous!”

What about testing?

“What I have been saying for the last six months is if people would turn around and look at some of these kids that go to nightclubs every night: they are having unprotected sex and have never been tested. We’re tested, in some cases, every 15 days…So we’re spending $100s of dollars as performers to go and get tested. We are the safest people in the world to have sex with but these kids that are out at night clubs, bars and parties every night. They are going out fucking in their cars…fucking all over the place and they aren’t having protected sex. And they aren’t going out to those kids.”

Is Measure B infringing on Porn Star’s freedoms?

“This is fucking with us and our way of life. Prince Yahshua said: I don’t like people telling me that I don’t have a choice anymore on how I can fuck. Because that is wrong. That’s like telling someone who works at the bank you have to wear gloves and a face mask because you’re dealing with the public and you can give them germs…that’s just telling us we have to be regulated from the way we do our job. There has never been a case of anybody that has gotten AIDS from a set.”

An isolated AIDS case a few years ago…

“The [Porn Star] who got AIDS got it outside of the industry and he wasn’t a regular performer. He was a guy who maybe did one or two scenes in his whole life. A lot of us have done over 100 scenes. I myself have been in over 150 scenes and I came from mainstream and I still work in mainstream. And I am a safe person. It’s astonishing that this has gotten to this point: a ballot….This is bullshit and this is something that has to stop. This is what Steve Hirsch said: if this passes we’re going to have to move out of town and we can’t make movies here anymore. This is fucking Hollywood! This is where a majority of movies are made…What are we going to do then? Move to Las Vegas?”

If Measure B passes, it won’t stop there…

“Michael Weinstein has threatened to follow us wherever we go. So if we go to Las Vegas they will follow us to Las Vegas. And plus it would be incredibly expensive to movie giant production companies to Las Vegas and then to fly in the talent. What are we going to do, use a bunch of amateurs? You have to use the same people. There’s a reason why you see the same people [in the films.] It’s because we can do the scenes…we can do what we can do. We’re exhibitionists. We’re good actors and good performers! And we are experts at what we do!”
