Porn Star Sunny Leone Decides to Call India Home
With her star status increasing in conservative India, Sunny Leone has decided to call India home, after all.
Leone, who is known in North America as one of the most bankable porn stars, made the shift to mainstream by starring in the Indian reality show Bigg Boss 5 and starred in an erotic thriller called Jism 2 this past summer. Although the film did decent in the box office, the appeal was Leone.
India, known for its prolific, yet conservative movie making, has become fascinated with Leone who has recently bought a home in one of Mumbai’s suburbs. Despite her surging fame in India, she has her detractors who feel that Leone’s background in adult film is troubling, especially for the Bollywood film industry which prides itself on being chaste.
“I think right now I am in a position, which is like a crossroad.… There are moments which change your life and I think this is that moment,” Leone said to Hindustan Times.
It is also reported that Leone has hired a language coach as well as a dance teacher to show her the ins and outs of traditional Indian dance which is an extremely popular component to Bollywood films.
Leone noted to the Associate Press that she was surprised to find a positive reception in India, “I didn’t think the Indian public would actually like me. I’ve done everything that I could do wrong in the Indian culture.”
Leone is only but a handful of porn stars that have transitioned successfully to the mainstream. However, in Leone’s case it is quite impressive to do so in such a conservative country like India.
