Film about Penthouse Founder Bob Guccione in the Works

A documentary about Bob Guccione, founder of the Penthouse adult empire entitled “Filthy Gorgeous: The Extraordinary World of Bob Guccione” will be released in late 2013.

EPIX will be broadcasting as well as streaming the documentary. They recently acquired the US rights to stream and broadcast the film.

The filmmakers have described Guccione as “a visionary, public-relations master, recluse and self-destructive optimist, who went from the pinnacle of power, worth hundreds of millions of dollars — to virtually dying penniless.”

Filmmaker Barry Avrich whose Melbar Entertainment Group has produced films about Hollywood mogul Lew Wasserman and producer Harvey Weinstein notes: “I realized that Guccione’s outrageous, yet powerful legacy, could be a spectacular film.”

Avrich contines, “Whether making films, dethroning Miss America, or pushing the envelope in science and publishing, Guccione was an icon.”

Guccione definitely made his imprint on not only the world of publishing, but in filmmaking where he invested millions into making films such as “The Longest Yard”, “Chinatown” and the world’s first big budget X-rate film “Caligula”.
