Facebook Copycat Site Geared for Muslims Looks to Cut Out the Porn
Facebook copycat site Salamworld is looking to cater to Muslims without exposing viewers to anything indecent including porn, nudity and gambling.
Abdul-Vakhed Niyazov, Salamworld chairman, noted that the social media site is a “cleaner version of Facebook” and said that the site will allow users to connect like Facebook and Twitter.
Niyazov continued: “By filtering out harmful content and ensuring that its pages uphold and respect family values, Salamworld can be described as ‘Halal Facebook,’ the new social networking phenomenon.”
The market of a Facebook-type site geared for Muslims is huge and is predicted to be roughly 240 million people globally including many who avoid social media because of impure content.
Although Facebook is already known to be very tough on porn, it has several gambling applications which allow users to bet real money. This is something that Salamworld is looking to completely take out of the equation along with inappropriate content along with porn which
There are have already been several attempts to start social media sites similar to Facebook in order to cater to a largely Muslim-user base. They include Finnish-based site Muxlim.com, which is currently shut down.
Salamworld is currently being beta-test and when released in November it will be featured in several languages, which includes Turkish, Arabic and English.
