Republicans Look to Challenge the Porn Industry

Things might be a little different if Mitt Romney and the Republicans win the upcoming US election in regards to the porn industry.

Not only the porn consumers will be effected, but those that profit from it including hotel owners and television providers. Furthermore, a Republican Party win could encourage a crackdown on others porn distributors like convenience stores and pay-per-view channels.

Recently, the Republican Party have been using strong language in threatening to crack down on pornography in the United States. It will definitely mark the first time since George W. Bush’s presidency that something like this could happen. Obscenity cases have been very rare over the past 20 years with only the most extreme kinds of obscenity being targeted.

‘Current laws on all forms of pornography and obscenity need to be vigorously enforced,’ the Republican platform notes, according to a draft that Reuters recently obtained.

Patrick Trueman, an anti-porn activist notes that porn is causing serious harm to American society: ‘It’s a growing problem for men in their 20s,’ Mr. Trueman said. ‘It’s changed the way their brain maps have developed. This is the way they get sexually excited.’

Trueman also notes that Romney had promised to be stricter with pornography earlier on in the year. According to Family Safe media, the porn industry was worth over $13 billion in 2006.
