Orgasm News Interviews Gen Padova: Part 1
Gen Padova is one of the most interesting porn stars working today. Although she is considered by some in the industry to be underrated, she has carved a creative and varied career in her professional career in the adult industry as well as away from the camera.
Dave Kingsley spoke with Gen about an array of topics which include developing her unique website, her doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine and the Adult Entertainment Industry.
Dave Kingsley: What fascinates you about sex?
Gen Padova: Sex can be so fascinating in the sense that it can feel entirely different from one person to another. From one penis or many, finger(s), tongue, etc to another. Sex can feel both euphoric and also the worst possible feeling in the world. It can make you feel good about yourself and it’s capable of making you feel disgusting.
Sex is not just the act, but the chemistry that occurs between yourself and another/others. I’m a firm believer that without the chemistry there is no sex. Sex is an unpredictable entity. It can be both bad and good for you. I love to venture and attempt to know the unknown each time. Whether it’s beautiful or a beautiful disaster.
DK: You re-launched your website www.genpadova.com earlier this year. How was that experience? Have you accomplished what you originally set out to do or is it still a work in progress?
Gen: www.genpadova.com will always be a work in progress. If I ever allow it to not be a work in progress then my passion to keep the presence alive will be dead. And then what’s the point in having it? It’s my personal timeline of my adulthood. The very reflection of how I got to be who I am sexually and all the yummy details along the way.
The experience for over 10 years now has been indescribable. I think I’ll always be in awe over the fact that a big part of my life is documented. To think that if any tragedy should ever happen where I lose my memory, I’ll be able to refer to my website to help regain it all and rediscover the bigger part of me. I’ve definitely accomplished my goal this year and I’ll continue to make it more progressive for my dedicated fan-friends.
DK: Along with your website, what are some projects you are currently working on?
Gen: There are a few things I’m currently working on:
- I’m preparing myself for early next year to host San Antonio’s Fetish Ball. I think this time I’m on my own until further notice. I’m nervous!
- I’m still in the works of writing my cookbook. It’s been almost two years now since I started and I can now start to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I can’t wait to share it.
- Also, I’m in the process of putting together a fun video shoot about the day in the life of me. Think of MTV’s cribs meets Oprah’s latest series Next Chapter. Just when you think you’ve got to know it all, it goes a bit deeper into the realm of my life and lifestyle. It should be interesting and I can’t wait to be able to share that with my website members.
DK: You differ from the majority of porn stars out there in that you have documented much of your diverse career on your site. Why have you done this? What has the response been from fans out there?
Gen: Seriously this is the way to go. We’ve reached a place in society where social networking has brought our fans closer to us. Being able to communicate regularly is easy to do and very common now. With that it seems as though majority of the fans out there become more intrigued by not just the naughty girl in front of the camera lens but who she really is and what makes her tick.
To showcase my true self takes less effort and time than to portray a character. I’m an open book for the most part and there’s no shame in it. I know that people all over the world get validation with themselves in the everyday world knowing that they can relate to others. And to be able to relate and associate with someone they consider celebrity status to whatever degree, provides them a sense of validation, that they’re not alone in this world. And to have the freedom to express sexuality on top of it just ties it altogether very nicely.
In the ’90s I was on the Internet a lot. It was easy for me to share my true persona to strangers than it was to open myself up to anyone that was in my life in person. Oddly enough it made me more vulnerable so if you think about it, I guarded my vulnerability by spending more time on the Internet.
The Internet may have shielded that vulnerability but it gave me form of expression and connection with people I would never be able to come in contact with had the internet not exist. From that alone I guess it stemmed into how I also presented myself to the voyeur world of pornography.
The response from fans is the best thing ever. If it wasn’t, I wouldn’t still be around. They’re proof alone that porn enthusiasts will never get bored of the girl next door with a racy sexual appetite yet no different from their closest friends.
There’s still a taste of taboo with porno especially with a girl like myself that doesn’t represent the stereotypically porn star look. That will never go away. It will always intrigue the fans.
DK: How did you come up with your porn star name?
Gen: It’s just a variation of my real name. It seemed necessary to choose a name that’s timeless than a name that would likely make me wonder why I picked it years down the road.
DK: What are some of the reasons that you left the porn industry in 2007?
Gen: Some say I left the porn industry but really all I did was stop working for other companies. I still ran my website and engaged with my fans both long dedicated and new ones, which is the most important factor to being a part of the adult industry in my eyes.
In 2006 I went back to school and tried to juggle it with doing movies on the side. It didn’t take long until my availability to do so was not a possible thing to pull off. To work on other people’s schedule when I was preoccupied full-time already wasn’t working.
So by 2007 I had to pull back, by then I think I was only doing fetish/bondage work. But it gave me the opportunity to put more time into my website. The decision wasn’t easy to do as it was bittersweet but to put more focus on my website on my own time without having to rely on anyone else was the smartest choice to make.
Not to forget to mention that I can benefit from the financial gain more than allowing every other company out there to squeeze every dime out of my work.
DK: What are some upsides and some downsides of the industry?
Gen: The upside to the industry is having the freedom to bare myself in the nude doing whatever I want to, whenever with whomever. The opportunity to know like-minded, carefree people. And of course the chance to meet people from all walks of life that I would never have if it wasn’t for this industry.
The downside of it all unfortunately is the competitiveness that people can have. I’m so thankful I don’t have that trait in my being. I’m a take it or leave it kind of person. Although, the competitive people can attempt to bring others down for whatever reason. Sometimes the criticism can be hard to swallow when someone is being deliberately ill about it. And the ass kissing that occurs is beyond ridiculous. This explains why my name isn’t as big as it potentially can be.
I refuse to say and be what I’m not. I have wondered how different it would be had I did the ass kissing. But it doesn’t matter. I like my world with my fan-friends. They’re irreplaceable.
DK: You earned a doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine. What interests you about this field? Are you thinking of pursuing Medicine in the near future?
Gen: I come from a stubborn Italian family that refused to ever go to the doctor for anything. My own father stayed home enduring a few minor heart attacks prior to his two big ones that finally led him to the hospital for immediate surgery where he lost his life for a few minutes before they were able to bring him back. Surely leaving more damage that could have been easily avoided had he not been stubborn.
Whatever his reasons are… I can’t deny the fact that I am my father’s daughter. The whole family is like this. But many of them have always utilized a healthy dietary habit and used alternative methods for preventative measures. The difference is no matter how healthy you eat, if you’re a smoker you’ll end up like my father.
Well, I don’t like going to the doctor either. Being prescribed an antibiotic for a virus or shoved pain pills to address something that could very well be taken care of if the root of the problem was sought after… it’s doesn’t make sense to me. My aunt is an herbologist/botanist and has helped me a lot through the years. The influence and my own experience on how effective it is, is what inspired me to venture into it.
DK: Who are the porn stars that you admire? Why?
Gen: The girls today, I would have to say Jenna Haze has an incredible work ethic that I can easily admire. I love how unfiltered Dana DeArmond is. She’s a woman who isn’t recognized enough for her hard work, work ethic, intelligence and the fact that she doesn’t shy from being pretty straightforward and honest about her thoughts.
It takes a strong woman to do that, which is easy to admire. And Catalina Cruz. She oozes genuine kindness and positivity. She’s consistent with it as well and that’s what makes it’s so easy to admire her.
