Orgasm News Interviews Gary Cockerell
Gentlemen Comics focuses on creating original graphic novels with a heavy emphasis on adult themes. They recently launched their eagerly anticipated official website on November 18th. Dave Kingsley of Orgasm News had a chance to speak to Gary Cockerell, the face of Gentlemencomics.
Dave Kingsley: You currently have 13 titles in your comic repertoire. What are some titles that are the most popular?
Gary Cockerell: At this point it’s too early to tell which our most popular title is. I can tell you it is neck a neck between Beelzebabe and Scarlet Lady though.
DK: Can you talk a little about some of your comics on your roster?
Gary: Our comics vary from superhero teams and demon possessed girls to mysterious ‘women only’ islands. We also have secret agents that use their sensuality to get the job done. The idea is to have a range of genres so everyone can find something they like in Gentlemen Comics. Based on feedback from our readers then, we plan on focusing on titles & genres that are most popular.
DK: Are you currently working on new titles? If so, can you give us a little hint on one of them?
Gary: Of course! In the works we have new titles about a spaceship crew trekking around the galaxy and boldly boning where no man has ever boned before, sex robots from the future and the battle for supremacy between Heavens angels and Hells demons…and maybe some Furries if ya lucky.
DK: What is your competition in this market? If so, how is your company differentiating itself from them?
Gary: There are many Adult Toon sites out there but most of them are porn companies doing comics. We want to be a comic publisher doing adult comics. Our aim is to bring the story and art back to the genre. Remember when porn had story lines too? Well, we do and we aim to bring that back.
DK: Why would an avid comic reader enjoy this genre of comic?
Gary: One reason is that all our titles are ongoing series. We have engaging characters you can invest interest in and continue to watch throughout different episodes. We all remember seeing a hot super heroine in a comic and wondering, c’mon go the extra step. Our comics do.
DK: What are some goals for you when you created Gentleman Comics?
Gary: The goal was simply to give people what they wanted from adult comics. Engaging plots, quality artwork & escapism.
DK: You doing something pretty cool on your site: your posting a new page from the comic ‘Maya’ on your home page. What has the response been from readers? Are you going to do this with other titles in the future?
Gary: It is an excellent way to show people what we can offer them as soon as they hit the page. So we will no doubt continue to do this in the future, especially to launch a new comic series. In fact, all our fans can expect some new artwork or comic page on our site for free each and every day. That’s my promise.
DK: You launched Gentlemen Comics online on November 18th which happens to be graphic novel writer Alan Moore’s birthday. How important is Moore and his work to your career?
Gary: Alan Moore pushed the boundaries and shocked a lot of people. Art is supposed to do this. His graphic novels were certainly not what people were used to seeing in comic books. A lot of people including me consider him a pioneer in adult graphic novels.
DK: Moore has touched on sexually explicit graphic novels especially with Lost Girls. Would you love for Moore to collaborate with you at Gentlemen Comics? What kind of story-line/project would you like to create with him if he came on board?
Gary: No one in their right mind would not relish the opportunity to collaborate with the legend who created Lost Girls. If we did get a chance to work with Alan on something, it would most probably be in the realm of fantasy. I’m thinking a mix of the Lord of the Rings and Wizard of Oz!
DK: Along with Moore, what other people have inspired your career?
Gary: When I was a kid a friend of mine took me to his father’s study as he had found his dads Dirty Magazine collection. They were early Mayfair magazines. Flipping through them I found a comic called ‘Carrie the Clumsy Stripper’. It was just a two page comic were she would accidentally lose her clothing in new and hilarious ways each time, but I loved them. We’d skip past the actual naked women to find these saucy comics. I guess Carrie and her ilk planted the seeds to my love for adult comics.
DK: What do you look for when hiring writers and artists?
Gary: We look for skill, a great style and flair for collaboration. But over all we look for creativity and someone who understands what we are trying to do here.
DK: Thanks Gary!
