Orgasm News Interviews Prince Yahshua: Pt. 1
From the mean streets of Chicago to the warmth and fantasy of California, Prince Yahshua has become one of the most popular men in porn. Orgasm News’ Dave Kingsley interviews Prince and talks about his thoughts on being CEO of his own company Silverback Entertainment, being of one of the most well-paid male porn stars around, and growing up on the streets of Chicago.
Dave Kingsley: How did you initially get into the porn industry?
Prince Yahshua: It was actually by default. My mistake. I had a small internet site in Chicago and one of the girls that I was actually filming at the time had aspirations and dreams about coming to California.
And she told me how I should be excited about trying to go there too. My natural response being born and raised in Chicago, was like, why the fuck would I want to go some where were the fucking ground moves.
To make a very long story short, me being computer illiterate and she wasn’t, a tape and some videos and pictures that me and her did with one of the shows that we did. I actually sent it to like 12, 13 different companies out here. The companies that were really big at that time.
We went out to eat, went to the movies, came back real late that night and to my surprise almost every company hit me back with a response. Pretty much saying the same thing, beautiful girl, but you know unless she’s physically here in Southern California, there’s no need for us to use her. Because we get girls coming off of boats, trains, cars everyday. The last email that I got was from West Coast Productions.
I opened it up, it said the same thing but at the end of the note it said, “Hey, but who is the guy in the video?” So, I wrote him back and said that guy was me.
They were like, well do you have a number? We talked for about 20 minutes and said, “Well if you can do in person what we see in this video, we may have a job for you.” They flew me out to Southern California three days later. A week later was my first $100 thousand contract, I’ve been here ever since.
DK: You’ve been in the industry for while now, but what I found kind of interesting is that you started Silver Back Entertainment a few years back. Can you tell us a few things about that and how did you come up with the name?
Prince: Silver Back, the name itself, was born and bread again from the city that I’m from. I love my city so much. I’m a Chicago native. But it goes back to West Coast again because of the owner of West Coast, great man that he is, by the name of James Alexander.
When I first got into the business he said, I have something for you that I want you to do. Took me back to the warehouse of the company. Big ass warehouse and he was like, every person, male that you’ve ever watched in porn is back here in this warehouse that you may like, envy, or you know, you may want to model yourself after.
Now pick out two or three tapes of people you know is revere, go home look at it, study it and make yourself better. You know, see what they’re doing wrong or doing right and then combine with what you do.
I actually did it. With Sean Michaels, Lexington Steele, Mr. Marcus, just to name a few.
And what I realized at that time, what they were doing…they were kind of making love to girls. That’s not what we do in Chicago. We gorilla fuckers in Chicago. That’s what we are. So, my first week after watching those movies, when I went out to set, I was like, okay. Well, one or two things are going to happen.
They’re really going to hate me and put me back on a plane back to Chicago super fucking quick or I’m going to be here, and they’re going to love me to death. Nine years later I’m still here!
So, that’s how the name Silverback, has always been in my mind. But after I got with Justin Slayer International, I think it was, late 2008 or 2009, when I became…[a] director for Justin Slayer he was like, well what are you going to call the entity of yourself?
The only name that came out of my mouth was Silverback Entertainment Inc. It’s been that way ever since.
DK: What projects are you currently developing?
Prince: The projects I’m currently developing now are not actually movies. I really have a big supply for everybody for the coming year. I will no longer be replicating or selling DVDs.
I’m actually going to go straight to the Internet now. Because of the market you know sill being as fucked up as it is, and all saturated. As well as what the general public doesn’t know.
Dealing with these motha-fucking distributors. I give you product and then I have to wait anywhere from six to almost eight months to get my money returned. I cannot do that. If the general public actual knew what we really go through just to get them the finest product they would be shocked.
“I wasn’t born with the fucking silver…spoon in my mouth. I’m a ghetto child from the mean streets of Chicago. Like I said, I know what it feels like to be broke. I know what it feels like to be hungry.”
-Prince Yahshua
DK: So, you’re just cutting the distribution then? That’s interesting.
Prince: I’m cutting out the middleman, yeah. I’m taking it straight to the people, Because the people are the one’s that really made me, you know what I mean, that’s what Silver Back is. It’s a movement now because I’m not from. I live here now but I’m not from California.
I wasn’t born with the fucking silver and the gold or platinum spoon in my mouth. I’m a ghetto child from the mean streets of Chicago. Like I said, I know what it feels like to be broke. I know what it feels like to be hungry.
I know for me doing what I was doing back then; drug dealing, gang banging, going to prison. For me, not only to do a 180 but a whole 360, and now be the Chairman and CEO of my own company, Silver Back Entertainment, Inc…Being one of the most the, if not most recognized male porn star today, it’s a blessing!
DK: What did you do before getting into the industry? You touched on a couple of things you were doing before but what were you doing.
Prince: I was part of an organization and I was definitely a drug dealer. I was a product of my environment. And it was what it was. No, no secret about it. When I got into porn and I got my first contract. I think the first month when I went into the office they were like, yeah, Prince don’t forget to pick up your check.
I wasn’t used to that type of thing because my money comes directly right then and there. So when I went into the office and they gave me the check, on my way out of the office. You know I did what everybody did, I’m opening up the envelope. When I looked at the check and I’d seen it was over $19,000. I was: I looked back at the building and I looked at my car and I remember running to my car. And revving the engine like I just robbed a bank.
I actually could make legal money doing something not that I like or even love but I have a passion for. It’s driven me and kept me here for the nine years that I’ve been here.
DK: Now again you’ve had so many successes. However, does you’re family and your friends support you back home in what you’re doing?
Prince: 150%! It’s funny I was just talking to my brothers, last week because I actually just recently went to Atlanta. Because I’m such a lasting street dude, I come from the streets. So me doing this for nine years, giving people the best of me for nine years sometimes I think we forget that we actually reached celebrity status.
When I got to the airport it was just like mayhem. They had to call security and walked me through the airport. They had to go to the bathroom with me! When I was telling my family members about that, they weren’t as shocked as I was.
Well, you’re not a regular person anymore. People view you everyday on the TV, on the Internet, iPads and iPhones. So sometimes when you come to that realization it really just puts things into that perspective.
