Odette Delacroix is a talented porn star who runs a successful fetish site that turns clients’ dream fetishes into realities. Dave Kingsley of Orgasm News talks to Odette about her love of being her own boss, being a talented entrepreneur and even her craziest sexual misadventure.

 

Dave Kingsley: What attracted you to the adult industry and what were you doing beforehand?

Odette De La Croix: Before I lived in Los Angeles, I lived in a rural community in Maine. Although I knew nothing about the adult industry until I spent a couple of years in California, I was always an exhibitionist. I didn’t even have access to porn in Maine, but I always wanted to take photos of myself with a camera on a self-timer.

To my family’s horror, once I had enough “good” photos, I would share them with people in my high school. After moving to Los Angeles to study English at a prestigious private college, I decided to continue making bedroom smut. One day, I joined a popular modeling networking site on a whim, and I began taking nude modeling jobs on the weekends to earn extra spending money. And, well, the hobby evolved into a full-time job.

 

DK: Can you tell us about some of the projects you’re working on at the moment?

Odette: I produce a lot of fun, quirky custom fetish videos for fans and collectors. My website is www.sexycustomvideos.com and through the website anyone can submit their video ideas for a price quote.  The two most popular genres that people request are AB/DL (adult diaper) fetish videos and videos with me interacting with BBW (big beautiful women) models. Both genres are a ton of fun to shoot, especially when the buyer wants the clips to have a humorous side.

 

DK: What do you like about the industry? What are some things that you don’t?

Odette: I love the fact that I can be my own boss. I have a lot of control over my schedule and my image–to a much greater degree than while I had office and editing jobs during college. As an exhibitionist, I also get to earn an income by basically satisfying my greatest sexual fetish. You can’t beat that.

On the downside, the social stigma of being an adult performer is still there, especially once one leaves Los Angeles. A large part of my family was horrified, talented coworkers from my old jobs disassociated themselves from me, and I have legitimate fears about how my work will affect my ability to use my English degree in a mainstream field.

Plus, just like other entertainment-based industries, porn has a few bad eggs who make the rest of the performers look bad as well–and now that those bad eggs can tweet to the world, it is still hard to escape the stereotypes.

 

DK: Who are the porn stars that you admire? Why?

Odette: I admire those who are not afraid to come across as intelligent, civilized people. Nina Hartley, Sasha Grey, and Shy Love immediately come to mind as both incredibly sexy performers and also as highly intelligent entrepreneurs. They really set a great example for the rest of us in the business.

 

DK: Have there been any porn stars that you particularly enjoyed working with? Why?

Odette: I absolutely love working with the BBW models because they are rewriting the book on what it means to be sexy. Despite living in a society where thin is beautiful and porn is trashy, they defy the odds and become successful as adult performers.

Adult work is not emotionally easy for anyone, but thin models still do not have to deal with the struggles of being large-framed, or even extra-large-framed. When I see a BBW model who truly loves her shape and believes that she is downright delicious, it’s really inspiring!

 

DK: How did you come up with your porn star name?

Odette: My family is French, so I wanted a unique, old-school French first name. I was always a fan of Eugene Delacroix, so I took his surname.

 

DK: What’s has been the craziest sexual misadventure you’ve ever experienced?

Odette: Misadventure? Well, I used to vacation a lot in Egypt, especially on the Red Sea. One time a lover and I decided to have sex in the water, near a gorgeous coral reef.

It started out great, but then a massive school of fish came over and started to bite us. We first tried to laugh it off, but they kept eating us alive so we had to make a run for it to the shore. While heading to the shore, I get stung by a giant sea urchin and I had to have a Bedouin nomad extract the barb with a lighter and two needles.

We were at a very rural beach, but the tribal first aid worked. Then the sex resumed.

 

DK: What is a celebrity or porn star that you would love to have sex with?

Odette: I would jump at the opportunity to do Bruno Mars. Actually, I’d just have sex with his voice if it will increase my chances.

 

DK: Do remember watching porn for the first time?

Odette: Growing up, there was only one computer in the house and it was in the living room, so it was nearly impossible to watch porn on it.

However, I had an illustrated, detailed anatomy book that I used to read from cover to cover. I used to masturbate to the photos. In hindsight, I think this helped me create my own sexual style.

The only sex videos I watched were the ones I was making with my boyfriends; they were fun, awkward, and sometimes ugly or giggly.  Porn, although it is all a fantasy, can make it seem like there is a “right” way to have sex. I didn’t start watching porn until I was making it for websites, just to see what companies would expect of me.

 

DK: What’s your ultimate fantasy?

Odette: There should be a private beach with good sunsets every night. On this beach there should be fruit trees, a bungalow, and a Jacuzzi on the sand. I would eat fruit from the trees, swim, and then have sex in the Jacuzzi during the sunset. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat.

 

DK: What’s your favorite sex position?

Odette: I like laying on my back with one leg held up and the guy on his knees. That way he can play with my clit, kiss my leg, and I can watch him get sweaty.

 

DK: What would the perfect date for you be like?

Odette: I really love camping, with lots of wine, fires, grilled fish, and great conversations.

 

DK: Have your family and friends been supportive of your career in porn?

Odette: My family is “used to it” now, but they still truly believe that I’m “wasting” my brain by being in this business. My mom and I still have a good relationship despite this, but other members of my family have threatened to blackmail me if I did not “quit.”

 

DK: Do you think the Internet is helping or destroying the porn industry?

Odette: I think it is hurting the producers, but helping the talent. Now models can often cut out the middlemen by using social networking, clips stores, and content sites.  It can really maximize profits if a model learns how to be both a great performer and producer.

 

DK: What is something people don’t know about you?

Odette: My first little job as a teenager was selling paintings; I would reproduce famous oil paintings for those who wanted them in their own homes. I still have a few hanging in my apartment here in Los Angeles.
