Campaign for Condom Use in Porn Hits Full Swing

The push by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF) to get the porn industry to use condoms as per Measure B is hitting its stride in advance of November.

“Vote yes on B” is the slogan AHF will be using for the campaign. Measure B is also referred to as the “County of Los Angeles Safer Sex in The Adult Industry Act” and, as noted by the AHF, the measure would “require producers of adult films to obtain a public health permit from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health…and pay a permit fee…sufficient for necessary enforcement.”

The president of AHF Michael Weinstein noted that Measure B will make producers “comply with existing health and safety laws including condom use in the films they produce — and there will be no cost to taxpayers, as enforcement will be covered by permit fees paid by the producers.”

Weinstein also noted: “Our initial polling has shown strong support for condom use in these films and we are confident that a majority of voters will see this as the straightforward health and safety measure it is,” he said.

There has been some support for the measure; however, many in the porn industry have come out in opposition to Measure B.

James Lee, spokesman for the No on Government Waste Committee, said: “Measure B is a waste of taxpayer dollars, does nothing to promote better healthcare and threatens to add increased costs to the county by creating another under funded government program.”
